Global Pumps built a skid-mounted diesel-driven pump package for drinking water supply at a mining project’s paste plant in Western Australia. Designed to work alongside the site’s existing electric pump, the unit provides additional pumping capacity when needed and an alternative when site power is unavailable.
The package combines the customer’s requested ISO pump with stainless steel wetted components and a custom galvanised frame.

CHALLENGE SOLVED AT A GLANCE
Challenge: Provide supplementary and backup pumping for a drinking water application.
Solution: A diesel-driven Southern Cross ISO Pro pump with a 50 mm inlet, 32 mm outlet and 316 stainless steel casing, impeller and mechanical seal, mounted on a custom galvanised frame.
Outcome: A skid-mounted diesel pump package that brings the equipment together for easier transport and site positioning, selected for 5 L/s at 50.1 m total dynamic head to provide supplementary and backup drinking water pumping.
The challenge: support the existing pump without depending on site power
This was not a replacement for the site’s electric pump. The skid-mounted diesel-driven pump needed to work alongside it, providing another pumping option as demand or power availability changed.
The specified duty was 5 L/s at 50.1 m total dynamic head. The customer also requested an ISO pump and required stainless steel wetted parts for the drinking water application. Pump selection therefore had to address both the hydraulic duty and the material requirement, while the diesel drive provided an alternative to the normal electric supply.
Pump selection and diesel drive
The customer specified an ISO pump for the drinking water application. Working within that requirement, Global Pumps selected a Southern Cross ISO Pro horizontal centrifugal pump with a 50 mm inlet, 32 mm outlet and 316 stainless steel casing, impeller and mechanical seal. The stainless steel construction addressed the material requirement for this water duty.
The selected model, 50x32-200.228-10/2520, has a 228 mm impeller and Table E flanges. The back pull-out arrangement allows access to the rotating assembly without removing the casing from the pipework, provided the installed layout leaves the necessary clearance.
Global Pumps paired the pump with a Hatz 1D81Z diesel engine through a long-coupled drive arrangement. The package incorporates 12 V electric-start equipment and a DSE3110 controller. An adjustable pressure switch was supplied loose for installation as part of the site’s control arrangement.
A skid built for transport and site handling
Global Pumps fabricated a custom base frame to support the pump and engine, together with a separate stand for the elevated equipment. Both were hot-dip galvanised. Bringing the equipment together on the skid makes the package easier to transport and position than handling its main components separately.
The engine installation includes rubber mounts and 30 mm spacers machined in-house. Global Pumps also fitted the drive guard and finished it in safety yellow, while the fuel tank was painted black and labelled for diesel only. The exhaust arrangement, battery equipment and controls complete the assembly.
The complete package
The finished skid brings pump selection, diesel-drive integration and local fabrication together in one assembled package. Global Pumps translated the customer’s equipment and material requirements into a coordinated build, with the supporting equipment mounted together for transport and site positioning.
