Global Pumps designs and builds portable, trolley-mounted pumps, also called mobile pumps: a pump on a wheeled stainless-steel frame that you move to whichever area needs it, instead of fixing it in one place.

Every unit is designed and built in house and tailored to your application, whether that is tank-to-tank transfer in a brewery or winery, flocculant dosing, chemical transfer, or sump and wastewater clean-up.

The range covers peristaltic, centrifugal, air operated diaphragm, hygienic lobe and selected magnetic drive pumps. To see which one fits the job, read the guide to choosing a trolley-mounted pump.

PRODUCT INFORMATION

Why mount a pump on a trolley:

  • One pump, multiple applications: one pump can cover several pumping needs across your operation, so you don’t need a separate specialised pump for each, and your equipment is simpler to manage.
  • Space-saving design: the pump moves around existing equipment and into established production lines or workspaces, then goes into storage after use, so it doesn’t take up valuable floor space.
  • Safer, easier handling: your team wheels the pump into position instead of lifting or manoeuvring heavy equipment, which reduces the risk of injury and makes the job more comfortable.
  • Mobility: the wheels cope with uneven floors, tight spaces and obstacles, so the same pump works across different areas and settings.

Pump on a trolley product range

Portable peristaltic pumps

A portable peristaltic pump gives you abrasive, corrosive or viscous liquid handling, including high-solids slurries, at whichever area needs it, and being self-priming it starts at each new location without priming. We mount the Dura series on trolleys because its size and weight suit a wheeled frame, so one unit can dose, meter or sample at several points, then be wheeled away and stored when the job is done.

Portable centrifugal pumps

A portable centrifugal pump moves large volumes of thin liquid quickly, so one unit can top up tanks, supply wash-down water or transfer process liquid wherever the need arises on a mine or in a plant. We mount Toro centrifugal process pumps for general industrial transfer and Packo hygienic centrifugal pumps for food and beverage, with self-priming models available. Staff wheel the pump into position instead of lifting it, and start without priming by hand.

Air diaphragm pump on a trolley

An air operated diaphragm pump (AODD) runs on compressed air, so a trolley-mounted unit can work at transfer points with no power supply, with no cable to run and no electrical equipment near the liquid. Our Verderair air operated diaphragm pumps are self-priming, can run dry without damage and handle corrosive and abrasive liquids, so staff can wheel the pump to a new tank or sump, connect and start straight away. When the job is finished, the unit is stored until the next one.

Magnetic drive pump on a trolley

A magnetic drive pump has no shaft seal, so there is no seal to leak while the pump is moved and reconnected, which matters for corrosive or hazardous chemicals. On a trolley it is wheeled to each chemical transfer point instead of being lifted and carried, then stored away afterwards. The smaller, lighter models in our magnetic drive range suit a trolley, and our engineers can confirm which models are available for your liquid and flow rate.

Portable brewery and winery pumps

A portable brewery pump lets one hygienic pump serve every tank in the cellar, so a brewery or winery doesn't need a pump fitted at each one. Our stainless steel Packo hygienic centrifugal pumps and rotary lobe pumps suit clean-in-place (CIP) cleaning, and between batches or vintages the trolley is wheeled out of the way, leaving the floor clear. Choose a lobe pump for thicker product and gentle handling, or a centrifugal pump for higher flow. See the Packo range.

Which trolley-mounted pump suits your application?

Your liquid or situation Usual starting point on a trolley
Abrasive, viscous or high-solids slurry Peristaltic
Dosing, metering or sampling Peristaltic (Dura series)
Thin, non-hygienic liquid at higher flow Centrifugal
Beer, wine, must, dairy or other hygienic product Packo centrifugal or lobe
No power at the transfer point, or corrosive and abrasive reagents Air operated diaphragm
Aggressive chemical where a seal leak is unacceptable Magnetic drive, selected models

This is a starting point only. Chemical compatibility, temperature, concentration and flow rate need to be confirmed against the pump's wetted materials before you order. Our selection guide goes through each case.

WORKING PRINCIPLE

A trolley-mounted pump, despite its mobility advantage, functions based on the same principles as any other pump. The key difference lies in its portability, achieved by mounting the pump unit on a wheeled frame (trolley) for easy transport and deployment.

APPLICATIONS

The unique design of the peristaltic, hygienic, AOD trolley mounted pumps ensure they are suitable for a variety of applications and environments, including:

Breweries

Yeast and beer transfer: Trolley-mounted pumps offer a mobile and efficient solution for transferring yeast slurries and finished beer between tanks during various stages of the brewing process. Their portability allows for easy positioning near different tanks, eliminating the need for permanent fixtures or lengthy hose runs.

Wineries

Pump over: During winemaking, the cap, a layer of grape skins and seeds that forms on top of the fermenting must, needs periodic mixing. Trolley-mounted pumps can be conveniently moved around the winery to perform "pump over," where juice is pumped from the bottom of the tank and sprayed over the cap, ensuring even extraction of colour and flavour components.

Tank transfer: Similar to breweries, wineries often require transferring wine between fermentation tanks, storage tanks, and bottling lines. Trolley-mounted pumps provide a flexible and efficient way to accomplish these tasks, offering easy manoeuvrability around the winery.

Industry/Mining

Floc dosing: In various industrial processes, flocculants (chemicals that cause particles to clump together) are added to liquids to aid in separation and settling. Trolley-mounted pumps can be used to accurately dose these flocculants at various points within a process, thanks to their precise flow control capabilities and easy positioning near mixing tanks.

Sump cleaning: Sumps collect wastewater, sludge, or other materials at the low points of industrial facilities and mines. Trolley-mounted pumps, especially those designed for handling viscous and abrasive materials, can be used to clean out these sumps efficiently. Their portability enables them to reach and clean various sumps located throughout a large facility.

These are just a few examples, and trolley-mounted pumps find applications in various other industries such as food processing, chemical manufacturing, and wastewater treatment, thanks to their versatility and portability.

FAQs

What is a mobile pump?

A mobile pump is a pump mounted on a wheeled frame, usually a stainless steel trolley, so it can be moved between transfer points instead of staying fixed in one place. We use "mobile pump" and "trolley-mounted pump" to mean the same thing. Our guide to choosing a trolley-mounted pump covers how to pick the right one.

Which pumps can be mounted on a trolley?

Nearly any pump can be mounted on a trolley if its size and weight are manageable. We commonly supply peristaltic, centrifugal, hygienic centrifugal and lobe, air operated diaphragm, and selected magnetic drive pumps on trolleys. Movable bases are available for larger pumps. Ask us about a specific model if you're unsure whether it suits a trolley.

What is a portable peristaltic pump used for?

A portable peristaltic pump moves abrasive, corrosive or viscous liquids, including slurries with a high solids content, and handles dosing, metering and sampling. It is not the best choice for high-flow, low-viscosity transfer.

Is a portable centrifugal pump available on a trolley?

Yes. We can mount centrifugal pumps from our ranges on a trolley, including Toro centrifugal process pumps for general industrial transfer and Packo hygienic centrifugal pumps for food and beverage. Self-priming models are available. A centrifugal pump suits thin liquids at higher flow rates and is not the right choice for viscous product.

What is the best portable pump for a brewery or winery?

A Packo hygienic centrifugal or rotary lobe pump on a trolley is the usual choice for yeast, beer and must transfer, and for pump-over during fermentation. A lobe pump suits a wider viscosity range, and a centrifugal pump suits higher flow with thinner liquids. See our Food & Beverage pumps for the wider range.

Can a magnetic drive pump go on a trolley?

Only selected models. Magnetic drive pumps are mostly fixed, continuous-duty pumps, and only the smaller, lighter units are practical to wheel between locations. Talk to our engineering team about which models suit your application, or see our Chemical pumps for the wider range.

Does a trolley-mounted pump need electricity?

It depends on the drive. Electric centrifugal, lobe and peristaltic units need a power connection at the transfer point. Verderair air operated diaphragm pumps run on compressed air instead, so they suit locations with no power or where electrical equipment is unwelcome near the liquid.

Do you design and build the trolleys?

Yes. We design and build the frames and trolleys in house and tailor them to your site, including wheel type, a VSD or pendant controller, and a movable base for larger pumps. Tell us about your application and we'll work through the options with you.

What is the trolley made from?

The bed and handles are stainless steel. Tyres are solid or pneumatic, depending on the application.

Can the trolley have larger wheels for cables and hoses?

Trolleys usually have large pneumatic wheels, and we can discuss larger wheels case by case.

Can a VSD or pendant controller be mounted on the trolley?

Yes, either or both. Wineries commonly use a pendant controller at the top of a tank to start and stop the pump, and a VSD lets the operator adjust flow rate to suit the product.

How is a trolley-mounted pump different from a drum pump?

A drum pump sits in a single drum or IBC for occasional decanting. A trolley-mounted pump is a complete unit that moves between several tanks or transfer points. If your job is one container, the drum pump selector will usually point to a simpler and cheaper option.
